Franz Ferdinand's number plate?
A few weeks ago a Dutch family dropped by and whilst talking about the Great War (like you do)I was told that the registration number of the unfortunate vehicle ridden in by the Archduke Franz Ferdinand when he was assassinated, precipitating the first world war and what came after, was 11-11-18 A - the date of the end of hostilities - A for armistice. Is this true? Anyway while looking for the answer I came across this page with photos of an early 20thc artillery piece and limber in Vienna http://www.fotos-geschichten.at/traditionsbatterie.htm and got distracted. Perhaps if I mention Kaiser Chiefs I might get more hits on searches *grin*
