The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988)

I picked up this DVD from a charity shop for 50p. I vaguely remembered seeing it at the pictures. Stars Daniel Day-Lewis and Juliette Binoche in their younger days. Set in communist Czechoslovakia (which I did visit once). Set in the 60s it is described as a romantic drama. Trailer here. Not too bad really. Some erotic content. Pretty watchable I thought, and Susan sort of enjoyed it. I have to say I haven't read the book so I cannot judge it that way but as a movie it was fine. Shot in France (Lyon). 18 certificate. New light on the ancient mystery of Glastonbury John Michell

This book is a brilliant read. We were fans of John Michell's books. On the internet archive here

Glastonbury Tor by Mike Jefferies photography

 https://www.facebook.com/mytownglastonbury/

Of course the festival is on this weekend. A big day for the West Country. Where we used to live it used to get deserted as everybody went to the festival. But it is at Pilton rather than Glastonbury. The Tor is just visible. We only went once to see the Fall. 92 I think. Glastonbury itself is worth a visit. A walk up the Tor is a must.

Happy birthday us Animals and Men in 2008

This weekend is mine, and tomorrow Susan's, birthday. So I thought I would spin this.

This was one of our best videos - shot by James B. Maximum rock and roll chose this as their video of the week once. The song is about me being called Napoleon at school and my reaction to it. We played indoors as it was raining and I had promised the Bad Detective who we borrowed the PA off we wouldn't get their stuff wet. 'From the grasslands to the mothership'

Joe Tex Davy, you upset my home 1955

Just heard this on Boss Radio 66. It's great song complaining about his partners love for all things Davy Crockett. It's a good one.

Brian Jones and No Expectations1968

On this day in 1969, The Rolling Stones tell Brian Jones he is out of the band 📆

From Far Out Magazine on the song considered t be Jones' swansong

"For most, Jones’ last notable contribution to the Stones’ canon was his slide guitar work on ‘No Expectations’. The Beggars Banquet track was recorded just as Jones was beginning to fade from the front lines of the Stones. As Mick Jagger remembered it, ‘No Expectations’ was the final time that Jones was alert, creative, and fully involved in a song’s creation.

“That’s Brian playing [the slide guitar]. We were sitting around in a circle on the floor, singing and playing, recording with open mikes,” Jagger told Rolling Stone in 1995. “That was the last time I remember Brian really being totally involved in something that was really worth doing. He was there with everyone else. It’s funny how you remember — but that was the last moment I remember him doing that because he had just lost interest in everything.”"

Alive and kicking (1958) full movie

This old movie is fun. Susan watched it today and loved it. I had already seen it and tried my best to not spoil it. Comedy of the gentle kind. Three elderly ladies do a runner from their nursing home. Stanley Holloway makes an appearance and a very young Richard Harris is one of the villagers (pic). You probably have to be a bit old to enjoy it. Also on Talking pictures encore.
