Bow Wow Wow: Truth Goes Naked | Full Documentary | dir PW Grimm (unauthorized)

I watched this. It's not bad

Buddy Holly & The Crickets "That'll Be The Day" on The Ed Sullivan Show 1957

Buddy Holly day today. I first discovered him via my Uncle Graham and Auntie Jayne who had an 8 track greatest hits in their car.

Battle of the Bands 1978

In 78 we (the Bad Detectives) did a battle of the bands at the Hexagon Suite which was Frome's disco night spot. We had to have a publicity photograph which we did here. The other bands were disco bands and we came last. Ivan had a homemade bass amp which exploded during the set. It was made of chipboard and didn't really look like an amp. Henry broke a load of strings. It was a frenzied performance.

Ike & Tina Turner - The Big T.N.T. Show (1965) (HD Quality)

Psychotic Reaction Count Five 1966

We loved this when we discovered it on Nuggets. Named our band after it.

Ralph singing in Frome

Me when I used to sing and play harmonica with the Bad Detectives. This is about 1979. This night was pretty wild with a door being kicked in and the police getting beat up. Henry remembered this "That's all true the police turned up when the door got broken and the mate we had running the door refused to let them in unless they paid the 50p entry and it all kicked off."

"Bedazzled": Drimble Wedge and the Vegetation - 'Bedazzled' (1967)

Bedazzled is a 1967 British comedy film directed and produced by Stanley Donen. It was written by and stars Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. It is a comic retelling of the Faust legend, set in the Swinging London of the 1960s

Lulu - Love Loves to Love Love | Live at the BBC on Top of the Pops 1967

In contrast. Susan introduced me to this song. I read her autobiography which I picked up in a charity shop. Interesting.

Black Book | Official Trailer (2006)

We watched this Paul Verhoeven film the other day. It's good.

Filmmaker Paul Verhoeven returned to the Netherlands after more than twenty years of success in Hollywood to direct this epic-scale war drama based on a true story. Rachel Steinn (Carice van Houten) is a beautiful Jewish woman living in Holland during the early days of World War II. When Axis forces take control of Holland, Rachel's family are killed in a bombing raid while most of the city's Jews are rounded up and sent to Nazi death camps. Rachel manages to narrowly avoid capture, and joins the local resistance movement. With her hair dyed blonde, Rachel can easily pass for a gentile, and when the leader of the Dutch resistance movement learns his son has been captured by Axis forces, Rachel is asked to use her feminine charms to persuade a German commander to arrange for the boy's release. Rachel soon finds herself caught up in a dangerous double life as she becomes a sexual plaything for the Nazis while attempting to bring down their evil empire as a spy.

Dress of a Collier 1880s

Jonathon Presto in Five years of Colliery life (1884) described the dress of the miner. My living history instincts tells me this is what you need to recreate a miner from the 1880s. From killed in a coal pit 2
Dress
A miner's hat resembles in shape, a pudding basin exactly; that is to say it has no protecting brim; the brim being turned down all round just a little to strengthen it. A hat with a brim could not be borne, as the head as the head is continually coming into contact with the roof, so that it could not be kept on the head. It is made of especially thick material to protect the head in case of stones falling from the roof and the like. A flannel shirt must be worn (no shirt is worn while working), as the temperature in the mind that in any other kind of shirt one is not sufficiently protected from the sudden transitionof cold experienced in coming from the mind into the cold air above ground. A pair of canvas trousers, made especially for coalminers, with only two buttons by which to secure them around the waist. The canvas being light, it is possible to wear trousers while working, but trousers of thicker, warm material, could not be worn by boys, who have to move about quickly, on account of the great heat. As to boots, waistcoat and coat, you can choose for yourself. Leather must be seen in the knees of the trousers to protect the skin while crawling about in the mines, and a leather socket must be attached to the hat in which the candlestick is carried with a burning candle in it to give light by which to work.

The Standells - Riot on Sunset Strip 1967

From the opening of the classic American International Pictures film "Riot on Sunset Strip".

On my digital turntable The Standells.

One of my favourite bands of this type and there are many.

The Standells are an American garage rock band from Los AngelesCalifornia, formed in the 1960s, who have been referred to as a "punk band of the 1960s", and said to have inspired such groups as the Sex Pistols and Ramones.[1] They recorded the 1966 hit "Dirty Water", written by their producer, Ed Cobb. (Ed Cobb also wrote "Tainted Love", a Gloria Jones song which became world famous when Soft Cell did a version of it.) "Dirty Water" is the anthem of several Boston sports teams and is played following every Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins home win.

Jaws 1975

By Approaching Porthtowan by Philip Halling, CC BY-SA 2.0,

Celebrating the 50th this year. Big movie. Wiki I don't think I saw it at the cinema. I was down in Cornwall staying at my Uncle Grahams in Porthtowan for the summer and everyone was shark mad. I used to work collecting beer glasses in a pub on the seafront the Commodore so we heard a lot of talk. Occasionally a shark would turn up but they weren't really a problem apart from the panic created on the beach.

When I gave up music in about 84 I gravitated towards politics. I stood in Frome for a number of elections around 1985. My father was a Labour politician so I think I was trying to emulate him. I was very fired up at that time (miner's strike etc) but I gave up and got involved in reenactment. After all I already had a beard!

The Train Book

I don't know much about the history of trains so I was glad to pick this book up from a charity shop. A visual treat I photographed a spread.

Locomotion No. 1

Locomotion No. 1 (originally named Active) is an early steam locomotive that was built in 1825 by the pioneering railway engineers George and Robert Stephenson at their manufacturing firm, Robert Stephenson and Company. It became the first steam locomotive to haul a passenger-carrying train on a public railway, the Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR).

Locomotion No. 1 built 1825 by George Stephenson for Stockton and Darlington Railway; hauled first train on the line 27 September 1825. On display for many years at Darlington Bank Top station
