Aurora kits
When I was a child my mother worked for the U.K. distributor of the Aurora kit range. So we were given a lot of kits and sets that had been damaged. 1968 catalogue here
Marx Black Knight
12 inch high figure from the 60s. I had one. Susan thinks I was spoilt as a kid which I probably was; my folks bought me nice toys. I don't still have it though these pics are taken from the web.

Pack Horse Frome
Pack Horse Frome. Boarded up. We used to practice above there. On Sundays they did roast dinners which we ate. Had Little Richard on the jukebox. Had some fun times there. We used to hang out at the lounge bar which was known as the Monk's retreat as I think a tunnel connected it to the nearby church. We used to be quite secluded there.

Sinead O'Connor RIP
Wendell Austin LSD made a wreck of me (1968)
Another Ichiban classic heard on Boss Radio 66. Country style song.
Blues Brothers (1980)
Another 50p bargain. We saw this at the cinema when it came out in 1980. Never heard of the Blues Brothers but the magazine Blues Unlimited had said John Lee Hooker was in it so we went but there was no one there. Big flop. But when it came out on VHS rental it got really really popular so that by the time it came out on sell-through it was a phenomena. Massive. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blues_Brothers_(film)

Slim Harpo Rocks
This is a fine Slim Harpo collection. Seems to be focused on his commercial-sounding tracks. It's good though.
Milk Street school Frome
Was thinking about this school today. Not called Milk Street anymore. A junior school when I went there 7-11 years or thereabouts. Got spanked twice there. With the dap which is a tennis shoe. Headmaster Traylen used to say 'go to the classroom and bring me a sturdy dap'. Once I was spanked in front of the school and I pissed myself. Very embarrassing. I actually reported one teacher to the Headmaster. Sports teacher was punishing boys by making them bend over then he would throw tennis balls at their arses. I thought it unreasonable so I reported him. No effect. My Dad was a governor there for many years so I hold no grudges. All different now.
Lib dems take Frome
Result from the By-election. Next election due to boundary changes Radstock and Norton will be with Frome so possibly interesting.
J.J. Light Heya (1969)
Here. Have a look at the wiki. The song begins with a Native American-like chant and reflects Stallings' ancestry.[2]

Dion Runaround Sue 1961
Saturday Night selection. Reminds me of my youth. Such great singing.
DION ~ RUNAROUND SUE. I recorded Runaround Sue with “The Del-Satins” and black musicians from the Apollo theater, Buddy Lucas on Sax, Sticks Evans on drums, Panama Francis on percussion,Teacho Wilshire on piano, Milt Hinton on bass, and Mickey “Guitar” Baker. ~ When Hollywood filmed this rendition they use all white actors playing musicians behind me, knowing the film wouldn't get played in the South at that time.

Betty Blue (1986)
I watched this the other day. Lovely soundtrack and very photogenic inspiring the cinema de look tag. I thought they existed in a consequence free world - if you or I set fire to our shack we would be in the dock for arson. But I suppose that's an old person's analysis.
Frome Livestock market early 80s
I didn't take this photo of Frome but I like it. How many of you remember when Frome had a cattle market in the centre of town? The Orange building in the middle distance was the Market Hall which used to have discos and the odd gig - I played there once. The building in the right foreground is now called the Cheese and Grain and is a music venue.
This is Spinal Tap (1984) full movie
"Before I met Jeanine my life was cosmically a shambles. I was using bits and pieces of whatever eastern philosophy would drift through my transom"
. I picked up a second-hand DVD of this today. I remember when I first heard of it on Barry Norman's Film show - they showed the clip of them at Elvis' grave. Anyway it's a classic.

U.K. Swings Again 1964
Watched this on tv today. A follow-up movie to U.K. Swings. Has quite a lot of clips of groups miming, in Eastmancolor - nothing brilliant but all kind of watchable. Keep your eye out for it if it gets shown again. Bfi entry

Radstock murders
Another entry from A grim Almanac of Somerset. Most of you will know this story.
8 November 1839
At 4 o'clock in the morning, 12 miners assembled at the pithead at Wellsway pit, Radstock. Waiting to descend underground to commence their shift. Tragically, as the 12 were lowered, the rope bearing their weight suddenly snapped and all 12 plummeted more than 250 yards to the pit bottom. The Men were literally smashed to pieces and only one was sufficiently intact to be recognisable.
Richard Langford (44) died with his son, Farnham 16 and Alfred (13) James Keevil (41) also died with two sons, Mark 15 and James 14. The other fatalities were William Adam (19) Leonard Dowling (12) William Summers (26) Amos Dando (13) John Barnett (41) and James Pearce (18). Langford Keevil and Barnett left widows and a total of 14 children between them.
The nature of the tragedy was worsened by the fact that, on examination it was obvious that the rope had been deliberately tampered with. Almost new the previous night it had borne a weight of 32 cwt. "Some diabolical malice caused this calamity wilfully and premeditatedly" reported the Bristol Mercury. It appeared as if the rope had been partially cut through, it's fibres weakened by a person or persons using a knife or chisel. Where the fibres had given way under the weight of the men, the edges were jagged and uneven, yet many of the fibres were cleanly cut and of regular appearance.
At an inquest before County coroner Mr. R Uphill the jury returned a verdict of wilful murder against some person or persons unknown. Although a reward of £100 was offered the murderer(s) remained undetected.

I guess Jack Kirby is my idea of a comic artist. Have others that I like but Kirby is the number 1.

The Castaways. I've always liked this song despite not being able to tell what they are singing. It's a Bikini World (1967)
