 Animals & Men filmed by Bea at the Black Cat club Bradford-on-Avon. Not packed as you can see. These were two songs written by Susan. 'I' she wrote on her 50th birthday and 'Sugartown' was mainly her but I wrote the chorus and gave it the title.

This book I bought this weekend. 20p. Ostensibly for my Grandson when he is older but also nostalgia for me. This series by the BBC was big news for my 12 year old self. I had a souvenir guide - a colour magazine that was brought out to accompany the series. I think it was this series that launched Anthony Hopkins' career.

Our new favourite band! On tour at the moment. Susan read a review of them in the Guardian of all places and tracked them down - they're brilliant - absolutely amazing. Noticed Everett True gave them a good review in Plan B. They're from Brooklyn. There is a quality here that is missing from most bands - they have something unique and it works. This song is a cover of Native American Jim Pepper's song based on a peyote chant which I haven't heard but the chanting made me look up, having a familiar ring to me having done more than my fair share of listening to Indian songs and chants. Check out the version on their Myspace it is spot-on. The A-side is great too. If their name is familiar it's a German classic novel and a Fassbinder movie starring Hannah Schygulla. 8 years ago the Seymour Arms

 This is Geoff, Bos and me at the Seymour Arms in 2014. In the village of Witham Friary. Photo by Susan. It was a gig in the beer garden. The Bad Detectives were playing there too. Bos did the art in the background. It was nearly a disaster. Bos had told us it was Sunday and we all were prepared to play as well as the BDs and we were about to leave and he said 'it's Monday'. Luckily none of us had anything planned although Geoff had done a 200 mile round trip for no reason. The gig wasn't that good. It rained and no one liked us. The Bad Detectives went down pretty well and got asked back but we were sort of ignored. Shame because we had fantasized about playing there and it happened but it was an anticlimax.  Recorded live in a living room in North Somerset. This was one of our best videos - shot by James B. Maximum rock and roll chose this as their video of the week once. The song is about me being called Napoleon at school and my reaction to it. We played indoors as it was raining and I had promised the Bad Detective who we borrowed the PA off we wouldn't get their stuff wet. 'From the grasslands to the mothership'

The day my Dad was on the news

Having your father on the main item of the main news is not something that happens everyday - so this event I will always remember fondly. My dad was a Labour politician - reading the Tribune and attending all the Party conferences - I have photos of him meeting Wilson, Callaghan et al but Tony Benn was a particular favourite, but anyway this year, about 67 I reckon we were watching the news on the telly and bosh! There he was! As broad as day. Basically, notorious British Nazi Colin Jordan had broke in to the conference and started shouting a load of racist rubbish about South Africa, disrupting things but noone seemed to be doing anything so my dad, usually mild mannered got up walked to the end of the row got him in an arm lock and frog marched him up the aisle kicked open the emergency exit and chucked him out. Magic. We didn't have a phone at the time but the next door neighbours did and it went red hot! Was that our John? We think so, he is in Blackpool... eventually he rang ... yes it was him...'noone seemed to be doing anything and he was annoying'... I sort of understood and felt proud, but was more interested in what present he was bringing me back - a 7th cavalry kepi and a Britains confederate general figure by the way!

 One of my favourite Bo Diddley singles. Geoff Barker used to do this great rock'n'roll show on the radio and he announced that he couldn't figure out what the girl singers were singing and I must admit I was banjaxed but a couple of weeks later someone announced it was 'Ooh girl I'm so glad' so now we know. Miss that show though.

When we played Aarhus Denmark

Back in 2008 we played here our first overseas gig in Denmark but it wasn't easy going oh no. The venue we discovered when we got there was a sort of semi official hang out place for misfits and punks, Goths and so forth. No problems there. It was welcoming and we prepared to play there in the evening. Then a detective turned up and called us together. Apparently it was Adolf Hitler's birthday and there were several coachloads of Dutch Nazis in town looking for trouble and they were likely to come to the venue. So we thought 'well trust us to be in the midst of trouble' but we lived through the punk era in Frome so we were used to trouble. After a time the security that was supposed to be doing the event all disappeared. So they asked Geoff the drummer and me if we could do security as they would have to close if they have none. So we shrugged our shoulders and stood by the entrance. Then a brick got thrown through the window it looked if things were about to kick off. But nothing happened. Maybe the police had scared them off but there was no further trouble. Of course we were very tense for the rest of the night and were glad when the evening came to a close and we could relax. Bloody Dutch Nazis!

Animals & Men Grrnd Zero Lyon 2009

 This was an amazing place. On an industrial estate it was originally selling bathrooms and had multiple rooms and floors. It was squatted. There was a charity shop there, a recording studio, which we recorded at, plus of course the venue and rooms to sleep in. On the night there were many stalls selling books and pamphlets.  The gig was great but one of the support bands broke a bass string and took about 40 minutes to replace it throwing all the running orders off so by the time we played a lot of people had left to get the tube.

World Lizard day

 World lizard day today. Radstock has a thriving population of them. Well it did. This was taken by Sue when we lived at Whitelands. Once we had one crawling up the wall in the front room. Before they rebuilt the town centre the area that was the site of the old station was full of them and we often saw them basking on the wooden fence that surrounded the area.
