This is good for people who remembers Frome before the Westway precinct was built. At the top is Singer's factory and the Clinic, a kind of health centre and then the cinema.

S.W.A.T. Theme (Intro)
Something both Susan and myself said we liked in 81 was the S.W.A.T series. Shown late at night after the pubs shut. First aired in the States 75-76. We have this theme song on vinyl. It was the intro bit that we particularly liked plus the repetitive plots.
Nick Fury by Jim Steranko
I am not an expert on comics like our daughter Celia is but one of my likes from 40 years ago is Nick Fury by Jim Steranko.
Mick Harvey / Anita Lane - Harley Davidson
English translation of the Serge Gainsbourg classic. From 1996 apparently - we bought it.

Eric Burdon - vocals
Hilton Valentine - guitar Dave Rowberry - keyboards Chas Chandler - bass John Steel - drumsTerraplanes badge and booklet
So with the Evil Going On single we included a booklet and a badge rather than a record sleeve. Click on the pic to see it larger. We were young I was 20 but Andy and Dave were still teenagers.

Have this 12 inch - an ep - one of the influences on the later Terraplanes sound. Tav Falco wiki
Its Hip The Terraplanes (Animals & Men) 1981
So about 40 years ago we were coming to terms with the fact that our single Evil Going On/It's Hip was not doing well. I think Rough Trade only took 50 and other places were only taking minimal numbers. Peel only played it the once on June 30 and that was it. We entered a Battle of the Bands thing in Bristol which is where this video is from. Later in the year we gave up. But it's cool to have this video as a record of those days.
Garbage Man - The Cramps
We were all big Cramps fans. Don't think we ever saw them when they Bryan Gregory on guitar though. Saw them a good few times. We were members of the Legion of the Cramped a fan thing that meant newsletters and so forth. Dave had this on VHS.

My Firebird copy
In about 1982 I bought an expensive copy of a Firebird. Was over a couple of hundred and I had it on instalments. The Firebird is a bit unbalanced and it is hard to stand it up and one evening my brother accidentally knocked it over and the neck broke. I was devastated. It became totally useless in a heartbeat. Was paying it off while it was not usable.

The Ad Libs - The Boy From New York City
Produced by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, the song peaked at No. 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 on the chart week of February 27, 1965. Though the group continued to record many other singles, they would never repeat the chart success of "The Boy from New York City", Wiki

Rebel Scytheman 1685 by Ralph Mitchard
I don't bother too much doing drawings any more but I felt inclined to do this figure based on the description that has come to light from John Taylor who wrote about the rebellion in 1687. Now Munmouth had in his Army 300 Sithers, armd with Sithes, pistols sticking in at their Girdles, and brod sords, in wast belts, Read the article here
Sonny Boy Williamson - Down Child
Second go at recording this song by Sonny Boy. I have this on a vinyl 45. Reputedly a Robert Johnson song.

Goodbye Sounds Involved
Today we learnt the rehearsal room we have been using is not going to reopen. Which is a shame as we liked being there. Been using it for a few years I think.
Pere Ubu - Life Stinks 1978
From the Modern Dance album. I think it is a six string bass not sure. Originally part of the repertoire of Rocket from the Tombs.

Forthcoming Billy Boy Arnold autobiography
The Blues dream of Billy Boy Arnold
so looking forward to this
Simply put, Billy Boy Arnold is one of the last men standing from the Chicago blues scene’s raucous heyday. What’s more, unlike most artists in this electrifying melting pot, who were Southern transplants, Arnold—a harmonica master who shared stages with Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, and Howlin’ Wolf, plus a singer and hitmaker in his own right who first recorded the standards “I Wish You Would” and “I Ain’t Got You”—was born right here and has lived nowhere else. This makes his perspective on Chicago blues, its players, and its locales all the rarer and all the more valuable. Arnold has witnessed musical generations come and go, from the decline of prewar country blues to the birth of the electric blues and the worldwide spread of rock and roll. Working here in collaboration with writer and fellow musician Kim Field, he gets it all down. The Blues Dream of Billy Boy Arnold is a remarkably clear-eyed testament to more than eighty years of musical love and creation, from Arnold’s adolescent quest to locate the legendary Sonny Boy Williamson, the story of how he named Bo Diddley Bo Diddley, and the ups and downs of his seven-decade recording career. Arnold’s tale—candidly told with humor, insight, and grit—is one that no fan of modern American music can afford to miss.

[When She Wants Good Lovin'] My Baby Comes to Me · The Coasters
As well as the clever comic songs the Coasters also did fine pop r&b. This is an example of this fine songwriting and delivery.
Little Walter - Blue and Lonesome (Take 1)
'Take 1 Blue and Lonesome by Little Motherfucker Walter.' One of my favourite Little Walter tunes - chromatic harmonica which is unusual.
Diggin' My Potatoes · Brownie McGhee · Sonny Terry
Susan has a few rows of potatoes in her allotment.

Tyning Inn Radstock by Jebz
Sad state of affairs for this once thriving pub. My Uncle Cliff and Aunty Bet used to run this pub in the 60s so I have good memories of family meeting there. Played here a few times.

Back a few years ago we used to have a lot of VHS tapes. We had several on the subject of T Tex including two volumes of his singles in chronological order. So you could watch his decline over the course of a half an hour or so as the tracks got worse. But some were good. I will post a few over the next few days.

Jimi Hendrix Experience in Montparnasse Paris - Wind Cries Mary October 11, 1967
Hendrix is definitely on this. I don't idolize Hendrix but he did some good songs.
Little Richard - Going Home Tomorrow 1964
I used to have this album. Bought in Frome Woolworths I believe. Cheap. I used to get a lot of budget Little Richard LPs. This track is very good with electric violin on it. Some people say Hendrix plays on this. I think that's refuted on the wiki. I don't care. Hendrix doesn't bother me much. Whoever plays guitar does some nice chords.
Bryan Ferry - Let's Stick Together 1976
Bryan Ferry did a raft of cover versions for his solo career and this is probably the best. Got to number 4 in the UK. Originally by Wilbert Harrison. The original has some really basic harmonica on it and the sax on Ferry's echo the original riff. Song wiki

SUMMER OF SOUL | Official Teaser
In Theaters and on Hulu July 2
In his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary—part music film, part historical record created around an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion. Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1969, just one hundred miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park). The footage was never seen and largely forgotten–until now. SUMMER OF SOUL shines a light on the importance of history to our spiritual well-being and stands as a testament to the healing power of music during times of unrest, both past and present. The feature includes never-before-seen concert performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Ray Baretto, Abbey Lincoln & Max Roach and more. Summer of Soul premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award. It will stream on Hulu in conjunction with Disney’s new BIPOC Creator Initiative; Searchlight Pictures will release it theatrically.Sunday, May 09, 2021

Nada, a beautiful French journalist on assignment in New York, records the life and work of an up and coming punk rock star, Billy. The best of Punk magazine
Had a nice early birthday present. This is a collection of pieces from the seminal US magazine. Wiki. Lots on New York's punk scene which I like. I have only skimmed it but there's lots of content. If you like US punk rock this might be for you. I remember the mag - Henry of the Bad Detectives picked up some issues probably from the comic shop up Gloucester road Bristol which I think was called Forever People. They sold fanzines and badges and posters as well as comics.

“This is our seventh record, the significant numerology of which affected the DNA of its content: the seven virtues, the seven sorrows, and the seven deadly sins. It was our way of trying to make sense of how fucking nuts the world is and the astounding chaos we find ourselves in. It’s the record we felt that we had to make at this time. Major thanks and kudos to the genius Chilean artist and film director Javi Miamor for the incredible visual accompaniment to our brand new song!”Saturday, May 01, 2021
