Rock On David Essex 1973
(a bass player) made many hits in the 70s but 2 hits stand out as being made by the bass playing. One was Walk on the Wild side Lou Reed and this one which similarly features double tracked bass and little else. I didn't like it at the time but now I appreciate it. It was on the That'll be the Day soundtrack double album but it seemed incongruous to me who wanted rock'n'roll which it ain't although it namechecks some like Summertime Blues. Radstock cinema service cards
This is something Joseph Simons picked up at an auction, Radstock's cinema now a carpet warehouse. They presumably are slides for inserting between the performances. Shame there wasn't one saying 'Stinky Miller Go' home as in my Dads favourite film Hellzapoppin. My Dad told me after they showed a film in Radstock someone used to cycle up to Midsomer Norton with the used reels. Norton's cinema is now a Wetherspoons. In 1930, Burnett met Charley Patton, the most popular bluesman in the Mississippi Delta at the time. He would listen to Patton play nightly from outside a nearby juke joint. There he remembered Patton playing "Pony Blues", "High Water Everywhere", "A Spoonful Blues", and "Banty Rooster Blues". The two became acquainted, and soon Patton was teaching him guitar. Burnett recalled that "the first piece I ever played in my life was ... a tune about hook up my pony and saddle up my black mare"—Patton's "Pony Blues".[13] He also learned about showmanship from Patton: "When he played his guitar, he would turn it over backwards and forwards, and throw it around over his shoulders, between his legs, throw it up in the sky".[13] Burnett would perform the guitar tricks he learned from Patton for the rest of his life. He played with Patton often in small Delta communities.[14]

Jessie Mae Hemphill (October 18, 1923 – July 22, 2006) was a pioneering electric guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist specializing in the primal, northern Mississippi country blues traditions of her family and regional heritage. She was born near Como and Senatobia, Mississippi, in northern Mississippi just east of the Mississippi Delta.

My grandson is apparently into Stingray. He is still pretty much a baby. I am pleased as I was big on this 60s show when it was originally on but of course our tv was black and white. I had a bath toy like this one. Episode 1 here. One thing my son noted as incongruous was the characters drinking whisky and smoking cigars!

Don't Knock the Rock (1956)
Don't Knock the Rock is a 1956 American musical film starring Alan Dale. Directed by Fred F. Sears, the film also features performances by Bill Haley & His Comets, Little Richard, The Treniers, and Dave Appell and the Applejacks.
The title of the film comes from one of Haley's hit singles of 1956. The Haley recording is played over the opening credits, but it is Alan Dale who performs the number in the film.
A disc jockey tries to prove to teenagers' parents that rock 'n' roll is harmless and won't turn their kids into juvenile delinquents.

This animated cartoon music video of the Richard Hell and the Voidoids' single "The Kid with the Replaceable Head" (Radar, 1979) was created by Washington D.C. kid's show "Pancake Mountain." The song was written by Richard Hell, and this recording was produced by Nick Lowe. Personnel are Richard Hell, vocals; Robert Quine, guitars; Ivan Julian, guitars; Jerry Antonius, bass; and Frank Mauro, drums. The guitar solos are traded between Quine & Julian. The song's copyright is owned by Richard Meyers (1978, 2005) and the song is published by Dilapidated Music (BMI). The cut appears on Hell's 2005 retrospective CD, SPURTS. Other versions were recorded for Hell's DESTINY STREET (1982) and DESTINY STREET REPAIRED (2009).

The picturesque city of Wells
Had to go to Wells today which is the smallest city in the country (except the city of London which sounds like cheating). Susan took these pictures of the Bishop's Palace and environs. I used to work in Wells. It is a pleasant trip across the Mendip hills for about 10 miles. It's an ecclesiastical city part of the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

Celebrating this film's centenary. The Little Theatre Bath are showing a special screening on 3 April. Good thing about it is you can add your own soundtrack. We are lucky to have this film. Bram Stoker's estate won a case against the filmmakers and all copies were ordered to be destroyed. Luckily some survived.

Murnau, starring Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok. The film, shot in 1921 and released in 1922, was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's "Dracula", with names and other details changed because the studio could not obtain the rights to the novel (for instance, "vampire" became "Nosferatu" and "Count Dracula" became "Count Orlok").
