100 years of Britains Farm toys

Britains 1985

Frome used to be a market town with a livestock market in the centre and every Wednesday people would come to Frome from the villages to buy or sell. The pubs would stay open all day and the barber's would have queues of people. As a child I was more interested in toys and so it was in the Frome toy shops farm toys were very popular. Frome had about 5 or 6 toy shops. Farm toys were used to educate and inspire young would-be farm kids to get into tractors and haybailing or so I was led to believe. It is quite a surprise to see they are still going producing toy tractors and cows etc. This photo is from the Britain's farm toys facebook

Frome Livestock Market. Of course it's not like this now. One of the buildings is now a music venue the Cheese and Grain where we have seen Adam Ant and the Fall .
