RIP Lew Lewis
It seems Lew Lewis has died. (Source: Wilko Johnson Facebook). Here is my favourite moment but he was a very talented harmonica player. If you want to see and hear more search Lew Lewis on this blog. He played with the Hot Rods, and his own band on Stiff.

Terraplane fixation sleeve
I always get a little miffed when I read about how brilliant the Smiths single sleeves were. 'An image from a movie and a band name nothing more' they say. 'Yes where did they get that idea from?' I mutter under my breath.

Civil War News cards
So another Civil War memory from when I was really young were these bubblegum cards which also came with Confederate currency. This page is dedicated to them. Quite awash with graphic violence which I probably liked.

Hugh Grant has been spotted in Frome buying a sausage roll from Parson's bakery. To celebrate I thought it would be good to revisit one of his early roles in Ken Russell's Horror comedy. I really enjoyed this film when it came out - nice early role for Amanda Donohoe too. Wiki

The Terraplanes 'Evil Going On' 1981 Bristol Granary
So I don't know the exact date of this - 40 years ago. Probably the summer. It was a Battle of the Bands for local what's on guide Out West and I remember we sent a single but I cant be sure of the date. It's an accurate capture of the look of us at the time. I remember we had to pay something like £20 to get a video film of the show at the Granary Bristol. We didn't wait around to hear who won - we didn't bring a load of fans like the other bands had. I remember an argument with Andy during the soundcheck but it got resolved quickly. It was literally just us and a driver so we were a little tense. It was the only time this line up did a gig.

Some sources say 1917 some 1918 but others say 1921 for his birth.
Walter Horton, better known as Big Walter (Horton) or Walter "Shakey" Horton (April 6, 1921[2] – December 8, 1981) was an American blues harmonica player. A quiet, unassuming, shy man, he is remembered as one of the premier harmonica players in the history of blues.[3] Willie Dixon once called Horton "the best harmonica player I ever heard."[3]

Moskow Man from U.N.C.L.E. 1978
This was a Trowbridge band from the late 70s. Met them when they came to the punk nights at the Hexagon Frome. They had a record out in about 78 and they got signed to Rialto. They could have been big. Saw them a couple of times but they didn't really have an audience. They got asked to play the Blitz club by Rusty Egan but their manager turned it down.

Mells Daffodil Day
Usually it was the Daffodil festival at Mells on Easter Monday. Has been a bit patchy the last few years but in its heyday was great. You would see loads of people you knew from Frome and Radstock as Mells is in between. Drinking, listening to bands, all that sort of thing. Stalls. Pub full. Vintage cars. Hog rosts. Reenactments and the Bad Detectives.

"Love Her Madly" is a song by American rock band the Doors. It was released in March 1971 and was the first single from L.A. Woman, their final album with singer Jim Morrison. "Love Her Madly" became one of the highest-charting hits for the Doors; it peaked at number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and reached number three in Canada. Session musician Jerry Scheff played bass guitar on the song.[3]
