THE PIRATES Castin' My Spell (1964)

We used to play this in the early days of the Bad Detectives - still remember all the lyrics!

THE PIRATES (England, UK) Mick Green, guitar; Johnny Spence, bass vocals; Frank Farley (drums)

THE PIRATES are best known for being Johnny Kidd's backing band (Johnny Kidd & the Pirates), but THE PIRATES' history is a long one to tell, and there's plenty of information on the internet for anyone interested. Focusing on this song, "Casting My Spell," it was the B-side on the 1964 single "My Babe." By then, they had already worked for several years with Johnny Kidd, who authorized this legendary trio to record and perform under the name THE PIRATES. "Casting My Spell" is a fantastic cover, originally released by the rockabilly group The Johnson Brothers in 1959. Casting My Spell ( E. & A. Johnson; Walter J. Ridley, producer) 1964.
