Wargaming Normans

I had a Norman wargames army. I bought it off a friend so I didn't paint it. I think it was Essex. Sold it to Chris Scott. Nowadays it looks as if Victrix is worth investigating.

Mark E Smith wargamer

Yes indeed. 28mm Napoleonics. Steve Hanley mentions it in his book the Big Midweek. Apparently he was interviewed nearby some but I think the clip has disappeared. [TMP] "Mark E Smith Wargamer?" Topic

Minifigs ad 1971

Back then you could get Minifigs in model shops. Ellenbray in Frome sold them as did the Modeller's Den in Bath. It was after a while that I tried mail order.

Wargames research group rules

 https://web.archive.org/web/20150830064733/http://www.wrg.me.uk/WRG.net/History/OLDWRG/WWII.pdf

we had these rules in the late 70s but we never got around to using them. As my favourite rules are free ones I might use these.

I asked the people at a facebook group dedicated to WW2 for the best rules for Poland 1939 and they recommended this supplement. Review here

1/32 Napoleonics

Since the 50th anniversary of the Waterloo movie I have had a revived interest in this period. So I have been looking at what is out there. A Call to Arms (pictured) have some useful sets which  are reasonably priced. This set is French line infantry 16 figs in 4 poses for less than a tenner.

Battleground - Waterloo part 1 (1978)

Edward Woodward introduces a wargame between two of the pivotal figures in the growth of wargaming in the 1970s - Peter Gilder (as Napoleon - takes on John Braithwaite (Garrison Miniatures).

IMDB on the series which is up on Youtube. (Gettysburg Edgehill and Waterloo)

Airfix Napoleonics

The film Waterloo came about the same time as this range of 1/72 figures of the most famous of the Waterloo protagonists. It also coincided with me actually painting the figures too although I wasn't so hot. The Waterloo farmhouse came out in 1971 by that time the range was well established. There was a boadgame from Airfix but I don't remember it.

Interesting feature on the wargames world in its infancy.

Zvezda 1/100 scale snap together tanks and vehicles

These are pretty damn good. Go here to see what is available. Bought these from Frome Model Centre. If you don't have a model shop try Ebay. Most of the range is German and Soviet but they do some British products. They fit together really nicely and they cost under a fiver for most of the models. So can you game with them? There is quite a bit of stuff available for 15mm which is compatible - the Plastic Soldier company has a range of 15mm vehicles and figures. In metal and resin there's Peter Pig.

Perry Miniatures WW2 (desert) range

If you are thinking of 28mm Italians in the desert these figures by the Perrys are very appealing.

A Very British Civil War

This set of scenarios are for a fictitious series of campaigns that revolve around the concept that Edward VIII doesn't abdicate and instead the country is split asunder with various armies - Red, Fascist, Monarchist Anglican - you name it - all explained here. I like this one as I live in North Somerset - be interested if any of you have it you can tell me if they mention Radstock or Frome?
