Hastings 960 - a collosal paper recreation of Hastings 1066
James Mogsymakes says: Awesome day out with The Paperboys Page running the Battle of Hastings with 16,000 paper minis at Partizan Wargaming and History. Kudos to the 28 volunteers who snipped soldiers for the game and Peter Dennis for an entirely cardboard/paper hill, and cheers to our Midgard Heroic Battles veterans who turned up to make the game run smoothly. — with The Paperboys Page and 2 others at Newark Showground.'

Wargaming Normans
I had a Norman wargames army. I bought it off a friend so I didn't paint it. I think it was Essex. Sold it to Chris Scott. Nowadays it looks as if Victrix is worth investigating.

My 1066 books
Some books I have acquired. One is a library book. I visited the Tapestry on a school trip in the 70s but the souvenir booklet was picked up by our daughter from Cheddar Car boot sale. I used to have spears and shields and kit that would have passed the test to take part in the reenactment this weekend but I am too old but I wish them well.

The War Lord (1965)
The War Lord - Wikipedia. Not many films about the Normans but this is a good one. This year is the 960th anniversary of Hastings. Battle of Hastings at Battle Abbey | English Heritage

Bayeux book
I got a couple of books from our favourite charity shop. One was an Eric Clapton autobiography and this one on the Bayeux tapestry. Funnily enough I already have a book on the subject but this is more in-depth. I saw it as a youth on a school trip to Normandy. I intend to only read some of the Clapton book. Life is too short to read about his later life.

There was a movie The War Lord (1965) set in the Norman period with a famous soundtrack. (Theatrical trailer)

Stamford bridge and the next big one
1066 and all that...As today is the anniversary of the battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066 - part of the run up to the Battle of Hastings - 14th-15th October - I thought it would be interesting to check out the advance stuff for the Hastings reenactment again. I have stuff for this period - shield, spear and so on but I've never done a Hastings as I'm not involved with any of the societies participating but there was a time when I might have tried to take part. The period is pretty accessible as its not expensive to kit out as a Fyrd or something lower class. A Norman knight involves a lot of work. Make a date in your diary though if you want to attend a no doubt large spectacular.
