I was in our favourite shop and there were two thick books - one called Big Bands and the other Glenn Miller both 50p each. My Dad was a proof reader so used to say 'don't buy me books I read all day' though he bought the Guardian every day too. I would have loved to give him those books and I bet he would have read them. Incidentally he sang in a jazz band in his youth - he was spotted on Farrington Gurney station and the bandleader heard him singing and said 'do you want to sing with us?' In the blood. Too young to be in the war but in his National Service ran a Post Office in Germany. Learnt German which was useful on holidays.
