| Haymarket. Virgin records were there/ |
To me Bristol was where I saw most of the punk bands and records I bought were to do with Bristol. I was at printing college and so we had digs and I went out every evening. I used to go to the centre at lunch times too. It is where I met Susan. Lots of record shops, clothes shops and clubs. Well, compared to Frome that is. The Cortinas were the biggest local band at that time and they were on local telly (Points West) once and I live in hope I may one day see that again. We did eventially spend a lot of time in London but the early years were mainly Bristol. The Dugout club was our commonest hang out. Bristol bands like the Android Pups played there. Walking home in the early hours to get mugged but we were skint so it didn't matter. . The Granary was good to see bands and we actually played there once. Susan used to go to the Barton Hill Youth club but I never did. Their gigs were at the weekend and I used to be in Frome at weekends. Clothes were Paradise Garage or maybe Boney Moronie next door. London styles. There was a comic shop in Bristol too where you could also buy fanzines and badges so another useful port of call.
