The Party's Over is a black-and-white British film directed by Guy Hamilton and starring Oliver Reed. Filmed in 1963, it was censored in the UK over scenes of implied necrophilia, which delayed its release until 1965. It was produced by Anthony Perry, with music by John Barry. Guy Hamilton asked for his name to be removed from the credits in protest at the censorship of the film.[1]
Here. Walter Norton's birthday. Here is an early classic.
Today's charity shop bargain. My Grandfather refused to go back underground due to the terrible nature of the settlement. He started his own turf accounting business instead. General Strike wiki
John Peel was a big Gene Vincent fan.
This is at Club 82 in New York. It is really good. I believe you are seeing the birth of punk right here.
They were a great band. I am sad I didn't see them live but I was a fan.
This is good. It starts off all restrained and then reached a crescendo. One of my favourite Ike and Tina songs.
One of their best I think. On the Smell of Female EP which came out in 83.
Another great instrumental showcasing Turner's fine guitaring. Here
First heard it on this album which came out in 1984
Here. I picked up this album of instrumentals from a junk shop in Frome. Listen to the whole album on Spotify here
Here. Ike Turner did some great instrumentals. Going to spin some over the next day or so. Not sure if the date 50s.
Hear it. Read the wiki on it. It debates whether it was the first rock'n'roll record.

This was an early visit to the studios by Frome's Bad Detectives. I like these songs.
This was just on the radio. We bought this. Very good.

Here. They are playing Bristol Strange Brew on the 23rd of May. I think my daughter will be excited!
Celia sent me this. Looks great and if you are a Wes Anderson fan as my kids are you will love this.

Celebrating the original hobo, bluesman David "Honeyboy" Edwards, whose death in 2011, severed a vital link to the music, memories and imagination that infuses all blues music. American based music journalist and broadcaster Gianluca Tramontana conjures the "Wild and tangled forests, the broad, unhasting river flows, somewhere 'twixt Memphis and Tupelo", to the heart and home of Honeyboy. Honeyboy Edwards was among the first generation of pre-war Mississippi blues musicians that rambled the countryside playing juke joints, picnics, house parties: anywhere music was needed. He knew the first blues musicians to be recorded, such as Charlie Patton, and travelled with the founding fathers of blues music including Robert Johnson.
Honeyboy was one of hundreds of thousands teenagers hopping freight trains during the Great Depression. He travelled in search of work - to play music, but his weakness for gambling, wine and women often got him into trouble. After the war he settled in Chicago where his reputation as the greatest country blues musician took hold. Honeyboy's death in 2011 marked the end of an era, that lives in the hearts of music lovers around the world. His life story is mostly untold, but it's a crucial slice of American history that has been in the shadows. Tramontana hobos across the country - taking in Chicago, New York, Mississippi and the National Hobo Convention in Iowa - to understand the world and ways of a different type of American hero

Robert Lockwood Jr. (March 27, 1915 – November 21, 2006)[1] was an American Delta blues guitarist,[2] who recorded for Chess Records and other Chicago labels in the 1950s and 1960s. He was the only guitarist to have learned to play directly from Robert Johnson. Robert Lockwood was one of the first professional black entertainers to appear on radio in the South, on the King Biscuit Time radio show.[3] Lockwood is known for his longtime collaboration with Sonny Boy Williamson II and for his work in the mid-1950s with Little Walter.

This album is fifty years old. Watch the OGWT performance of the Do the Strand. Susan bought this.
Good song for this time of year. To these ears it sounds like the Stones are doing a Van Morrison here.

I like Cornwall and Fowey is well worth a visit particularly with the Daphne du Maurier connection. This is a fine old pub. Today I borrowed a pleasant book Daphne du Maurier's Cornwall by Brett Hawthorne from the library. Some lovely photos in there.
This is a great record. Give it a spin. His name does not work in the U.K.
This is a folly near here. Wiki Surrounded by woodland we used to go here a lot when our kids were young. I have been up it but suffered from vertigo while up there. It was originally going to be commemorating the end of the Seven Years War but is associated with the location of Egbert's stone.
Got this today for £1! I am hoping my Grandson will later develop an interest in Knights and Castles like his Dad did. Then he can have this. Classic book.
Photo by my sister Anne. At Tucker's Grave near Radstock. The drink is their own Mother Tucker's cider which is delicious. If you haven't been to Tucker's maybe make it up there this year. You can camp there.
Incidentally I have created a new label Cider which you can use to read more about this drink. While on the subject of Rich's Cider they now have a restaurant when you visit. Webpage
Near Highbridge Somerset.
This is lovely country pub not far from Frome. An unusual sort of bar which gave rise to the legend that is was once a railway ticket office but I don't think that was true. They have bar skittles and sell Rich's cider. Bos introduced us to it otherwise I don't suppose we would have found it. Opposite the local cricket field it has a beer garden with a climbing frame for kids. We played there once with the Bad Detectives which fulfilled an ambition.
Saturday 🌙 night selection. Was a hit in the UK in 1976. Hank Mizell wiki. It was on our Youth club jukebox and I remember we used to put it on and when it was ending we would nudge the jukebox so the needle would skid back to the beginning and play it again.
Some songs for Patrick's Day.Thin Lizzy played in Frome around this time. Was packed apparently. I was too young to go.
Live at the National Stadium, Dublin 1973. Probably my favourite folk groups ever. You may need to turn this up, it's a bit on the quiet side. I was able to get Susan's parents into Planxty. We saw Liam O'Flynn at the Merlin in Frome in 1988. It was lovely. Hear the cassette of the solo album we bought here
This has just been uploaded. Been looking for this Scorsese documentary for some time.
PERSONALITY CRISIS: ONE NIGHT ONLY tells the definitive story of the culture-defying David Johansen, notorious ’70s glam punk lead singer of the New York Dolls. Framed around an intimate cabaret performance filmed in January 2020 at New York City’s storied Café Carlyle, PERSONALITY CRISIS: ONE NIGHT ONLY reveals Johansen’s enormous influence, transcending the walls of music as a window into the art and cultural evolution of New York City. Wiki on the film. I love this movie. If you haven't watched it give it a try. Susan's mother and Grandmother were from County Cork so we have visited many times.
From The Late Late Show - Tribute to The Dubliners March 1987
This is the first performance of their hit single - The Irish Rover which reached number 8 in the UK singles charts. .Wiki. Joe Strummer;s band before the Clash but you knew that. I really liked this record. 101ers on Spotify. I only ever went to Stonehenge Free Festival once. Didn't see the 101ers.

Thanks to Adrian for telling me about this. Looks fantastic.
Check out the trailer for Little Richard: I Am Everything, an upcoming documentary about star Little Richard. The documentary features Mick Jagger, Billy Porter, John Waters, Tom Jones, and more. Little Richard: I Am Everything tells the story of the Black queer origins of rock n’ roll, exploding the whitewashed canon of American pop music to reveal the innovator – the originator – Richard Penniman. Through a wealth of archive and performance that brings us into Richard’s complicated inner world, the film unspools the icon’s life story with all its switchbacks and contradictions. In interviews with family, musicians, and cutting-edge Black and queer scholars, the film reveals how Richard created an art form for ultimate self-expression, yet what he gave to the world he was never able to give to himself. Throughout his life, Richard careened like a shiny cracked pinball between God, sex and rock n’ roll. The world tried to put him in a box, but Richard was an omni being who contained multitudes – he was unabashedly everything. Directed by Lisa Cortés, Little Richard: I Am Everything is produced by Robert Friedman, Cortés, Liz Yale Marsh and Caryn Capotosto and Executive Produced by Dee Rees. Little Richard: I Am Everything will be available on special-one-night-only theatrical screenings on April 11, followed by additional theaters and a digital release on April 21, 2023.
