Blank Generation - 1980 movie with Richard Hell

Richard Hell, one of the most important and influential figures in the late-'70s New York punk rock scene, stars in this gritty look at the underground art and music community, directed by German filmmaker Ulli Lommel.

Billy (Richard Hell) is an up-and-coming musician and poet who meets Nada (Carole Bouquet), a journalist from Europe who has come to New York to do a story on him. Billy and Nada soon fall into a troubled relationship, and Billy has to choose between his career and his feelings for Nada. Andy Warhol appears as himself (being interviewed by Nada); Richard Hell plays three songs with his band The Voidoids, shot live at the legendary club CBGB's. In a nutshell, it isn’t a good film by any stretch of the imagination but it is worth your time for the concert footage alone – especially, if you are a fan of Hell. The scene where he is performing live in CBGB is special, considering the recent demise of that historical and cultural landmark.

The Pogues - A Pair of Brown Eyes 1985

Shane MacGowan composition. Wiki. Bizarre video.

The music video for the single, filmed in 1985, was directed by Alex Cox. It is set in a Nineteen Eighty-Four-esque Britain, now a police state, with Margaret Thatcher in the place of Big Brother as a supreme, god-like authoritarian figure. The video stars English singer Kirsty MacColl, who is annoyed by an old man on a train. It features roles played by band members as well as a cameo by the record's producer Elvis Costello. Images of eyes abound, with most characters in blindfolds or wearing goggles, and one official wears an eyepatch.

Eddie Cochran - Somethin' Else

Co-written by his girlfriend Sharon Sheeley and his elder brother Bob Cochran, and released in 1959.The song was written on the back of a match book. Veteran studio drummer Earl Palmer played the same drum beat on "Somethin' Else" as Charles Connor did on Little Richard's "Keep A-Knockin'". However, Eddie Cochran was unaware that Sheeley wanted to duplicate the drum sound of the Little Richard recording. The song peaked at No. 22 on the UK Singles Chart, but only reached No. 58 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.
