Guss and crook

 Have written about this before. A device used by carting boys. My Grandfather Has fuss and crook scars  The last pit to use them was Braysdown.

As late as 13th February 1926, at Ludlow's pit, an employee was killed wearing the Fuss and crook, the first fatal accident there since 1910. The examiner said "the men will use their guss. They like them like bread and cheese". Killed in a coal pit 2
