Well it was only a matter of time wasn't it before I had to upload something - this was us in 1981 - at the Granary in Bristol. It was part of Out West battle of the bands competition which we didn't win - but we got a video which was very new at the time.
Do you remember who else was competing? Is the Granary still there?
ReplyDeleteI have a piece on it somewhere - the other bands were all mainstream rock.. we didn't do the fan thing so unlike all the other bands we didn't have 30 plus supporters - I sulked because of the shirt Andy the drummer wore and he blew up at me during the soundcheck... we left before the final result.
ReplyDeleteI think the Granary closed down. It was mainly a heavy rock venue but occasionally they had something good on. Here's a picture of the exterior

That interior shot of the renovated Granary (from your link) is certainly different from how I remember it! I cringe now at the thought of adolescent evenings spent there, banging my head to the likes of Def Leppard, Vardis, Iron Maiden, Angelwitch, Quartz, Limelight, and others too embarrassing to mention. Just found this web site dedicated to the venue: http://www.thegranaryclub.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteWhere else did you play around Bristol? Did you have much to do with the other bands in and around the city in the early-'80s? It must have been quite an exciting time musically.
it was very exciting in the punk era - we really looked up to the Bristol bands of the time - bands like the Pop Group were brilliant - we ddn't support many - Essential Bop was one I remember. We were pretty shy though and didn't play nor hang out much. Visited the Granary site - interesting indeed - we went to a couple of the saturday night rock evenings - did we not fit in - but no hassle as I recall. Best band I saw there was the Pirates really.
