Monochrome Set Le Boom Boom 1985

Poster of Bid which came with the 12 inch.

Here for a good one. We supported them in Paris a few years ago. Bid we liked very much having had smoke breaks with him. He watched our set too and gave us a thumbs up after.

Halloween cards 1900-1920

Here at the Public Domain Review. Some great images.

Monochrome Set Jacob's Ladder on the Tube 1984

Something good on the Tube. Don't know the exact date but must about now 40 years ago. We bought the 12 inch which was fantastic.

Here. The closest they got to the big time. Got mainstream radio play and everything.

Lost Weekend (expanded edition) Monochrome Set

This was recorded late 83 according to their webpage.

Next year is the 40th anniversary of this album. They are doing a gig playing it at the Lexington London next May. Tickets already on sale. Here
Listen on Spotify here. We didn't buy this at the time. We weren't following music then. A good album though.

Our daughter is a Tank Girl fan and she is impressed.

Here

Victoria Baths Frome

These opened in May 1899 and closed in July 1974 when the Sports centre opened.

I remember it being very cold. My parents made me go before school which was thoroughly unpleasant. Cold and early. Pic Frome Museum.

Ramones I Want You Around 1979

Here. From the movie Rock'n'Roll Highschool. We revived this movie recently. It's great. I read they originally wanted Kiss but I am glad the Ramones did it.

Robert Johnson Me and the Devil blues 1937

Here. I consider poor Bob as being suitable for Halloween with his imagery of Hellhounds and the Devil.

Cruisin' Records Bath

Andrew Cave posted this on Bath History and Mystery. A place where we spent a lot of money in the late 70s. Where we got our Ideal for Living e.p. and Hong Kong Garden. They sold second hand too I got my Nuggets compilation there.

Black Magic Magic Sam Blues Band 1969

Screamin' Jay Hawkins (She put) the Whammy (On Me) 1964

Here. I met Screamin' Jay in about 1982. Backstage.

Publicity pic from Live and Let Die (1973)

Hear the theme song here. I saw Wings play this song live when nobody had heard it on the first gig of their tour. When I was 13.

Jane Seymour and Geoffrey Holder

J. B. Lenoir & his Combo The Mojo 1953

I love J. B. Lenoir (pronounced Lenore). A truly original songwriter. He even wrote a few political songs which resulted in a visit I believe. Classy singer and guitarist.

Here. Pic from the Illustrated J.B.Lenoir discography.

Bewitched opening credits

Here. First broadcast in 1964. Susan was a big fan. She named her car Tabatha after the baby. (She was a tabby). Wiki. Hanna-Barbera did the credits.

Chuck Berry Trick or Treat 1961

That's his sister Martha singing in the background.

Pic Bob Corritore

Here for a great seasonal song. Details on the Chuck Berry Databas here. Heard on Boss Radio 66.

Little Richard It Ain't What You Do American Bandstand 1965

Here to watch. Little Richard was my first musical love after the Beatles. Bought every thing I could find. Including this one.

Our much loved family pet Leroy. We had him from a puppy and he died when he was 16 and a half. A Staffie crossed with a Boxer.

Bus outside Victoria Hall Radstock 1950

Ludlow's and the Railway in the background. Martin Forster did a painting of this I believe it's in the new calendar of Radstock paintings.

Fats Domino Every Night About This Time 1950

Here. Just heard on Boss Radio 66. I know this from Magic Sam's cover but this is exquisite.

Bob Dylan From a Buick Six 1965

Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Ran from 1964. I liked it as a child. Theme music was good. Wiki. Apparently it was originally going to be called Solo. Positive reaction to the Ilya Kurakin character made it become more of a team.

Watch season 1 opening. Here. Originally in black and white.

Violent Playground (1958) full movie

Here for a juvenile delinquent movie set in Liverpool although none of the characters have Scouse accents. Wiki

Barlow & Watt Jack the Ripper 1973 part 1

Here. This was a series with two fictional detectives from Z cars and Softly Softly. I remember watching it with my Mum and finding it really scary.  Wiki

Screamin' Lord Sutch Jack the Ripper 1964 Live

Here

Brilliant live clip of the late Lord Sutch doing "Jack The Ripper" in London sometime in late 1964. The clips shows kids' fashions just on the cusp between the early and late 60's period. Reflecting the early 60's, we still have girls with beehive haircuts, and besuited boys looking like Joe 90 clones. Looking forward, we see other boys and girls with short hair, in t-shirts or mod-like jumpers. Mini-skirts were still 3 years in the future though.....

The Addams Family Intro

Here. On the subject of the Addams this series debuted late 1964. Wiki. Great theme song.

The Cramps Goo Goo Muck Wednesday dance scene

Song is from 1981 but the original is from 1962.

Here. You have to have one Cramps song in your Halloween playlist and what better than this one with its recent revival in Wednesday? I haven't seen the show but the clip is fun.

The Righteous Brothers - Little Latin Lupe Lu (Shindig pilot episode - Jul 11, 1964)

I first heard this in relation to 'Should I Stay or Should I Go?' Song wiki quite interesting.

Here to watch.

Batgirl

Susan and myself made a Batgirl mask for one of our daughters. Quite a challenge. Wiki

Both our daughters did cosplay of DC characters at conventions etc. Batgirl theme

Captain Scarlet & the Mysterons

Been enjoying the reruns of this. Quite wonderful. I like the end titles by Ron Embleton

Watch episode 1 here

John Lee Hooker Boom Boom (1969 live)

I like John Lee Hooker and this is great. Wiki

According to Hooker, he wrote the song during an extended engagement at the Apex Bar in Detroit.

I would never be on time [for the gig]; I always would be late comin' in. And she [the bartender Willa] kept saying, "Boom boom – you late again". Every night: "Boom, boom – you late again". I said "Hmm, that's a song!" ... I got it together, the lyrics, rehearsed it, and I played it at the place, and the people went wild.[11]

Here to watch.

Mike Spenser & the Cannibals Nothing Takes the Place of You

When Mike Spenser left the Count Bishops I lost interest as I liked the singing. But then he did this which was great. A side Good Guys.  Introduced by John Peel. From about 1978. We bought this. Wiki

The Fall Pumpkin Head Xscapes 1992

Here. Great song for your Halloween playlists.

Alligator Wine Screamin' Jay Hawkins 1957

There is a great biography of Screamin' Jat and it was telling the story of this song. It was a big budget follow up to I Put a Spell on You. Guitar Mickey Baker, song by Leiber and Stoller what more do you need? It wasn't a hit. But it is great and ideal for Halloween so I thought I would.post it.

Lyrics by Leiber and Stoller.

Take the blood out of an alligator, heh
Take the left eye out a fish, heh-heh
Take the skin off of a frog, heh-heh
Heh, and mix it all up in a dish
Add a cup of green swamp water
And then count from one to nine
Spill over your left shoulder
You got alligator wine
Alligator wine, ha-ha, ha-ha
Your porcupine, ha
It's gonna make you mine
Oh yeah! It's gonna make you mine
It'll make your head bald, baby
I say, it'll make your toes freeze
It'll turn your blood turn into steam (FSHHH!)
It'll make you cough and sneeze
You gotta scream like an eagle

You gotta roar like a mountain lion
When you get finished drinkin'
Good old alligator wine
Alligator wine
Your porcupine
It's gonna make you mine
Meet me at the stroke of midnight
By the swamp down in the wood
I'm gonna make you love me, baby
Like you never thought you could
You gonna break my magic potion
And your bloodshot eye is gonna shine
You gonna be scared forever
Too much alligator wine
Alligator wine
Your porcupine
It's gonna make you mine
Alligator wine...

The Young Bucks Get Your Feet Back on the Ground 1977

Here. Another obscure but enjoyable punk record. We bought this.

Models Man of the Year 1977

Here. A b-side but a real rocker. Saw the Models at Bath Pavilion supporting the Heartbreakers. A good record. I remember I played it to Susan as she hadn't flipped it over. On Step Forward.

Snatch All I Want 1978

Here. Punk excellence. One of me and Susan's favourite 45s. A duo.  You won't find them on Spotify. Their legacy is unexploited. They don't have a Wikipedia page but you can read about them here. They were an influence on us when we had two vocalists in the terraplanes.

Crib

Crib board. This was my father's and now my son has it. I think it was originally my Grandfather's. I don't know for certain but I think this was a popular local game. My Uncle Arthur ran a League in Radstock. They used to play it at work during the lunch hour. Wiki

Animals & Men 1979

Susan's 'military' jacket. 1979. It was an American band jacket from a shop in the Portobello road that did import college items. It was orange but we dyed it black after a while. No colour pics exist sadly. Note this was before Adam did his military jacket thing.

Pics by Peter Lowery

The ones we didn't use as we were smiling etc!
