Amen Corner - Scream And Scream Again 1970

Last night on TV they showed Scream and Scram Again - abd we noticed Amen Corner were in it but we didn't manage to stay awake long enough to see them which was a shame as Susan is a fan. Here is what I found on Youtube.

I'm Movin' On · Gene Vincent

Mississippi Fred McDowell - Write Me a Few of Your Lines

Baz Luhrmann’s ELVIS | Official Trailer

'From Oscar-nominated visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ drama “Elvis,” starring Austin Butler and Oscar winner Tom Hanks.'

Black Rhinos at the Wild Place Project

We are excited to announce that plans are underway to bring a pair of black rhinoceros, one of the rarest animals in the world, to the new Bristol Zoo! 🦏 🦏

They’re among a host of exciting animals that will be living at the new zoo, which is due to open in 2024 here at Wild Place Project, and will be part of plans to increase the number of species at the new Bristol Zoo that are in need of conservation.

The inclusion of black rhinos at the new Bristol Zoo is part of a European programme to maintain a population that will act as a safety net against them becoming extinct.

Brian Zimmerman, Director of Conservation at Bristol Zoological Society, said:

“We have ambitious conservation plans for the future and we hope that the black rhino will be part of that work.”

Blues before sunrise

Otis Rush and Willie Dixon

Is the name I gave a collection of blues images culled from and on Pinterest. 198 pictures.

The Stranglers - (Get A) Grip (On Yourself) 1977

I bought this at the time. I think it is their best song. I didn't buy any more but Susan had Rattus Norvegicus (with the bonus 45) when I met her; I saw the Stranglers on Jubilee night in Taunton.  I read somewhere that they were due to play Grip on the kids tv show Magpie but it got cancelled in the wake of the Grundy furore.

Dirk wears white sox Adam and the Ants demo 1977

Adam and the Ants badges

An image I found on the web. We did have and maybe still do have (somewhere) all these badges. Nice seeing them together. They were produced by Better Badges and presumably designed by Adam.

Adam Ant - Vive Le Rock 1985

So Adam Ant has cancelled his Antics tour (due to start tomorrow) due to exhaustion. Read here

Let's wish him well and hope they can reschedule.

Evans' Shuffle Muddy Waters/Little Walter 1950

B-side but very good.  This song I was thinking it would be a good theme song for a Radio show but we haven't decided yet.  I believe the Evans of the title was a Chicago dj.

Possible Radio show

A few weeks ago Susan and myself applied to our local radio station to do a show. We now have to complete a series of courses learning about the law, bad language and so on but it's looking possible. If all goes well it will probably be on Sunday evening for an hour. I will obviously let you know more in time but we have made a start!

THE MOVE I Can Hear The Grass Grow 1967

Susan likes the Move. She played this.

Kid Thomas - Rockin' this Joint Tonight 1959

I only heard of this person yesterday thanks to Bernie Keith on Rock and Roll Heaven. He is a rock n roll singer but also a harp player. He had an interesting life and a strange death which you can read about here

Adam Ant You can't set rules about love 1990

I first heard this in Rival Records. I hadn't heard it before and they played it on the shop's system and I thought 'I quite like this I wonder who it's by?' So I asked. It was Adam Ant. D'oh. So I like this and though the video  is a bit cheesey it's a good song.

The Carrie Nations - Come With the Gentle People

from the Russ Meyer film Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. I really like this film and if you haven't seen it it's worth tracking down. It's about an all-girl rock group as seen by a dirty old man. Trailer

Otis Rush So Close 1960

Something overly sentimental for you. I have to admit I like this a lot. On Chess. Otis Rush wiki

Radstock Home Guard

My Grandfather Henry (Tom) Newman was an officer in this. (Third from the left front row). My Mum remembers them keeping a Bren gun in the bedroom. A German ME110 crashed at Radstock and the Home Guard were used to keep the site secure. He was an engine driver on the Somerset and Dorset as well as being on the council.

Brian Jones era Stones Playlist

Made this for the 50th anniversary of his death. Got most of my favourites on here.

Rebel Monmouth Scytheman by Ralph Mitchard

I got asked by the Sedgemoor visitor centre if they could use my art for colouring sheets ( for the children if it rains) so I redid my drawing of a Rebel scytheman after Taylor's description.  Taylor narrative here

The Spider And The Fly - The Rolling Stones 1965

This song reminds me of Frome pubs in my teenage days. It was the B-side of Satisfaction I think so it was on all the juke boxes and I used to put it on. One of the Stones early compositions. It really sounded good on a juke box really bassy.

Sittin' thinkin' sinkin' drinkin' Wond'ring what I'd do when I'm thru tonight Smoking, moping, maybe just hopin' Some little girl will pass on by

Midsomer Norton's new town park by Susan

This is another Coasters song. Not sure of the date.

Billy Guy - Whip It On Me Baby - 1963

Billy Guy wiki. This song I have on a compilation as by the Coasters. I heard a version of this by the O'Jays last night on the radio but this version is the best I think. Written by Phil Medley who wrote Twist and Shout.

Quick Joey Small the Mud Dogs 2006/Dog with the No Bone Blues/Sun and the Moon 2001

Filmed in our garden. Just filmed off the cuff. No planning.I used to play with Rich we were mostly jamming in the kitchen but we did the odd gig. Bass by Oz and drumming Johnny Rench. Phil recorded it.

Bow wow wow

The best looking punk band in my opinion. I do consider them a punk band. Musically they were very talented too. I have collected a few images of them on a Pinterest page.

Ralph Mitchard Proof reading in the 80s

A picture of me proofreading in the early 80s. This was when I was working for a typesetter that specialized in Greek and Maths. I used to suffer from water retention in my ankles sitting still all day. Not a good job for a young man as I was. My Dad was a proof reader too. There was about 6 different typesetters in Frome at that time.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion live on Australian TV 1997

Don't know what songs they are doing but it's a good clip.

Johnny Thunders - In Cold Blood 1983

I think this was the last Johnny Thunders record I bought. It's pretty good in hindsight. See what you think?

Tanks and other AFVs of the Blitzkrieg Era 1939-41 B.T.White (Blandford)

The Face

Who remembers this magazine? Launched in 1980. We used to get it every issue - we had quite a pile of them but of course we sold them. I am nt sure when we stopped buying it probably when we had children and no longer cared about fashion and style.

New Suicide compilation

Read about it here/ Yes we did see Suicide supporting the Clash. Harrowing.

The Five Keys - She's The Most 1956

I first discovered this on a Charly reissue in the early 80s. I have memories of us driving around with this pumping out on Geoff's car stereo.
